Benefits of Private Swim Lessons

Benefits of Private Swim Lessons

Are you or your child getting the most out of your swim lessons? Are they progressing as quickly as you’d like? Are they getting enough attention and swim time? These issues can be discouraging for both swimmers and parents. Private swim lessons can solve those problems, and many more.  Here are some benefits to consider when deciding between group and private swim lessons.

8 Benefits of Private Swim Lessons

1. Convenience and flexibility in scheduling

Everyone is busy, and sometimes you just need to be able to schedule when it is most convenient for your family. Our instructors work varying days and times in order to accomodate families’ busy lifestyles or adults with work and travel commitments. If life gets in the way and you can’t be there, simply give your instructor 24 hours notice.

2. Direct relationship with an instructor

Private swim lessons allow you to learn from an instructor who is matched to your individual needs. All Elite instructors have their strengths, so we’ll try to match you to the one that will best meet your needs and goals. Many of our instructors have unique training or certifications, including competitive coaching experience, triathlon experience, working with adaptive individuals, health care training, and working with beginner adults.

3. More swimming time

With private swim lessons, you’ll have more time to focus on practice and execution. Since there is no waiting turns, your lesson time will be maximized.

4. Progression is done as needed

Instructors will spend more time on your weaknesses, and build upon your strengths more if you are working solo.

5. Fewer lessons are needed

Since lessons are customized to the swimmer, and the participant gets more swimming time, they advance faster towards their goals than when in a group setting.

6. Fewer distractions for the swimmer

There is greater ability for the swimmer to focus and pay attention if there aren’t the distractions from other students. One mom of a two-year old in our lessons recently commented, “My daughter loves to swim but doesn’t yet have the focus to participate in a group class. Private swim lessons have helped her to develop her interest and ability because the skills are taught at an individualized level that she can really understand.”

7. Flexibility in the skills that are taught

If you have a specific goal in mind, our instructors can customize their lessons in order to achieve what you would like. Depending on the student and their skill level, our instructors can adapt and present the skills in a way that accelerates learning. This flexibility also allows them to use pool toys and equipment to make lessons more fun. From the mother of an eight-year-old in our program, “My son has always enjoyed swimming and learned a lot from group swim lessons, but he needed a little one-on-one attention to really refine his strokes. Taking private swim lessons provided him with the individualized instruction he needed to really succeed!”

8. Lessons can be differentiated better

Everyone has their own unique needs and our instructors are trained to work with them. Whether you or your child has a fear of the water, needs help paying attention, has difficulties with breathing, or any other special need, our instructors can work at the pace you need better on a one-on-one basis. One parent recently said, “Our 4-year-old son was afraid of the water. We could not get him to put his head and face in the water or swim without floaties. After just a few  weeks of private swim lessons, his fear is gone. He is now excited to go to swim lessons, put his head and face in the water, and even try and swim by himself. We could not be happier with his progress.”

Here are some other comments from parents and swimmers who have benefitted from Elite’s private lesson approach:

“My 4-year-old son had been doing swim lessons at [another local swim program] since he was 6 months and never seemed to quite get how to swim. After 2 private lessons, he was swimming the length of the pool on his own!”

“Swim lessons at Elite are one of the most beneficial amenities the club has to offer. After looking into lesson options at other establishments, we concluded that Elite provided the best value and expertise. Jessica Heller, Aquatics Director at the Mequon location, has successfully taught all of my children ages 6, 4, and 3 to swim with confidence. Her patience and skill is top notch! My children and I all love and trust her completely. I credit the swimming lessons at Elite, and Jessica, for allowing my family to have a fun and safe time at the pool!”

“Our daughter has been taking private swim lessons at Elite for the past 3 years.  Along with learning the fundamentals of swimming, she is gaining personal confidence and a love for the sport. The coaches at Elite have played an integral role in the physical development and strength training of our daughter after multiple surgeries.”
