Meet Mike Sharp
- What position(s) do you currently hold at Elite and any you have held in the past?
I am the General Manager and Tennis Director at Elite-West Brookfield.
- How long have you been playing tennis?
I’ve been playing for 40+ years. It’s truly a lifelong sport.
- What made you want to become a tennis pro?
I love the sport of tennis and this was a fantastic opportunity to work and share with others what I love to do.
- What is your favorite part about your job? About tennis in general?
One of the best things about tennis at Elite is the social/community aspect. I love working with other tennis pros and players, and getting to know each one on a personal level. Interacting with everyone that shares my love of the game is wonderful. I also find it very rewarding to inspire a younger generation of players.
- What activities do you participate in at the club or outside of the club besides tennis?
I enjoy paddling, golfing, biking, hiking, and just being outside in general.
- How would you encourage someone who is considering tennis for the first time?
It’s a great workout that is much more fun than the treadmill! Whether you’re competitive or not, it’s just good all-around fun and you can meet some great people.
- What advice do you give people who are just starting out in tennis?
Whether you’re starting out young or getting into the game as an adult, there are plenty of ways you can learn the game. For kids, Elite has wonderful youth tennis programs and our staff is fantastic to work with. As an adult, I recommend joining group tennis lessons with other players starting out. Once you get started, practice by using the ball machine and use low compression balls to rally.
